Completing the square
Completing the square is a very useful technique for simplifying and even solving quadratic equations. All examples I kept finding online were based on a simplified example with some numbers plugged in. I wanted to create something that showed the derivation of the general form in a way that would stick. This one was created in Flash, due to the simplicity of the animation.
Experimenting with sound: the polygonal trigonometric functions rendered as audio
My previous posts (here and here) generated a lot of curiosity and discussion about how would these functions sound like if treated as sound waves.
Instead of simply posting a couple of samples here, I decided to write this interactive Flash applet that generates the audio on the spot for any wave and note you want.
Have fun!
EDIT: by request, I also added that heart’s functions as well.
Calvin: If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.
Hobbes: How so?
Calvin: Well, when you look into infinity, you realize there are more important things than what people do all day.
